Traveller in Time: Discovering the Danube Delta

As a traveler in time, I often find myself drawn to the natural wonders of the world. The Danube Delta, located at the easternmost tip of Romania, had been on my bucket list for years. So, I set out on a journey to discover this unique and breathtaking destination.

Day 1: Arrival in Tulcea I arrived in Tulcea, a small city located at the gateway to the Danube Delta. After checking into my hotel, I took a stroll along the promenade, enjoying the views of the Danube River. I also visited the Danube Delta Museum, where I learned about the history and biodiversity of the area.

Day 2: Exploring the Delta

Today, I took a boat tour through the delta, which is the second largest river delta in Europe. The landscape was breathtaking, with lush vegetation, water lilies, and reed beds. I also saw a variety of wildlife, including pelicans, swans, and even a few dolphins. The highlight of the day was visiting Letea Forest, the only forest in the world that grows on a sand dune.

Let me tell you more about what I found interesting about their boat oturs

How to Get to the Danube Delta

The Danube Delta is located in southeastern Romania and can be reached by car, bus, or train. The closest major city is Constanta, which is approximately 150 kilometers from the delta. From there, you can take a bus or hire a car to reach the delta.

Day 3: Visiting Local Villages

Today, I visited some of the local villages in the delta, which are home to a mix of ethnic groups, including Romanians, Ukrainians, and Lipovans. I saw traditional houses, churches, and fishing boats. I also tasted some local cuisine, including fish soup and mamaliga, a traditional Romanian dish made of cornmeal.

Day 4: Kayaking Adventure

Today, I went on a kayaking adventure, exploring the smaller channels and canals of the delta. It was a peaceful and serene experience, with only the sounds of nature around me. I saw more wildlife, including egrets, herons, and cormorants.

Day 5: Birdwatching Excursion

As a bird lover, I couldn't miss the opportunity to go on a birdwatching excursion. I saw a variety of species, including spoonbills, ibises, and storks. The guide was very knowledgeable and provided interesting information about the behavior and migration patterns of the birds.

Day 6: Sunset Cruise

For my last day in the delta, I decided to take a sunset cruise. It was a beautiful and romantic experience, with the sun setting over the delta and painting the sky with vibrant colors. I also enjoyed a glass of local wine and some appetizers, savoring the moment and reflecting on my journey.

In conclusion, my journey through the Danube Delta was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I was able to discover the unique beauty and biodiversity of this natural wonder, as well as the culture and traditions of the local communities. From exploring the delta by boat and kayak to watching birds and enjoying a sunset cruise, each day brought new adventures and experiences. I left feeling rejuvenated and inspired, grateful for the opportunity to travel through time and discover the wonders of the world.
